GITEX has moved to December, and that changes the season

A trade show changing venue is administrative news. A trade show changing month is a different thing entirely, because a city's hotel rates, flight loads and meeting calendars are built around it.

GITEX Global 2026 dates

GITEX Global 2026 runs 7–11 December at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City Dubai. The GITEX Scale Summit opens the week on 7 December; the exhibition floor is open 8–11 December.

This follows the move already announced in October 2025, when the show confirmed it was leaving the Dubai World Trade Centre after forty-five years. What was not obvious at the time is that the venue change came with a calendar change.

Why the month matters more than the address

October in Dubai has been GITEX month since the 1980s. Hotels priced against it, adjacent conferences scheduled themselves to catch its arrivals, and a great deal of business that had nothing to do with technology was transacted in the fortnight around it.

December is a different market. It sits inside the high season proper, when leisure demand is already strong and rooms are already expensive. A business event landing in that window competes with holiday traffic rather than creating its own.

What is genuinely uncertain

Two things nobody can answer yet. First, whether October retains a technology anchor or simply loses one. Second, whether the exhibitors who treated GITEX as the end of the third quarter adjust their own product cycles, or quietly deprioritise a show that no longer lands where their financial year does.

Both will be visible in the 2027 announcements, not in this year's floor plan.
